Molong and District War Memorial
Description
The memorial is an obelisk, positioned on a two-step base, which is made of the same material. It is in recognition of all the brave soldiers from Molong and the surronding district who have served Australia in the defence forces. The memorial is positioned on a circular paved area, surrounded by grass, within the town's village green. Two flagpoles are also on site.
On the front of the obelisk, there is a dedication plaque and an unveiling plaque, as well as the emblems of the Royal Australian Navy, Australian Commonwealth Military Forces, and Royal Australian Air Force. The front side of the base is also inscribed with the words 'Lest we forget'. Another notable inclusion is an honour roll for the First World War, which is attached to the left side of the obelisk.
The obelisk was dedicated on 15 April 2018. It replaces the original memorial, which was a headstone with several plaques attached. The original memorial was dedicated on 16 July 2011 and is shown in image 7 above. It was accidently destroyed, prompting its replacement. The top plaque on the front of the obelisk bears the same inscription as one of the original plaques.
