This memorial tablet is a marble plaque placed on a decorated timber frame. The plaque is dedicated to Herbert Burdett Sanders, a member of the 2nd Australian Infantry Battalion aged 19 years, was killed in France on 23 July 1916. His name is listed on the Villers-Bretonneux Memorial at Picardie in France. The Macleay Chronicle (Kempsey) on 23 August 1916 wrote wrote a detailed report of his death.
The memorial is now located in the Kempsey Museum.
